After 27 years of training I was feeling discouraged because my gains had stalled.
In frustration, I contacted my Bodybuilding Coach friend to ask for some friendly advice.
What he said actually Pi$$ed me off!
After asking me a few questions and hearing me whinge and make excuses, he unwaveringly told me it was my training – I didn’t know how to train properly! Now that’s something I did not want to hear after 27 years of lifting weights and so an argument ensued.
Once the dust settled, I swallowed my pride and knew something had to change.
I decided to stop following all the contradictory Bro-Science and set out to find the Evidence Based Training research about what really increases Muscle Size and Strength.
Time to do some digging!
I hired 2 well know IFBB/NABBA coaches, bought countless “How To Build Muscle” books & Training Programs, listened to all the popular “Gurus” and Pros on Podcasts & YouTube.
I also studied articles by Brad Schoenfeld, James Kriege and read the articles found in the renowned Monthly Applications in Strength Sport (MASS) by Greg Nuckols, Eric Helms PHD, and Mike Zourdos PHD…to name a few.
It took months to sort through all the somewhat confusing information on what works and doesn’t work.
That’s when it happened!
While thinking about all this new information swirling around in my head, it dawned on me that there’s actually a Muscle Hypertrophy Formula.
It’s all there in the books, podcasts, YouTube videos and scientific papers. However, the problem is that the formula appears complicated because it is explained using convoluted words and phrases which is why very few people fully grasp it and know how to implement it into their training plans.
To test my theory, I hired a mathematics guru and software developer to confirm my findings and develop what I now call a Muscle Hypertrophy Algorithm.
Once all the numbers and calculations checked out, I found 8 of the most popular training programs online and asked my software developer to hard code them with the Hypertrophy Algorithm.
To further confirm my theory, I sent what I had discovered to a Mr. Olympia competitor who I know and his exact response was: “Those are some impressive sheets man!”
His response was like music to my ears.
It was now my turn!
I tested the formula on myself and a few months later I had gained 8 kgs (17.6 lbs) of solid muscle while also Losing Fat at the ripe old age of 47. I’m now 50 and 22 kgs (48.4 lbs) heavier and leaner compared to when I started.
People who had not seen me in a while were surprised to see how much my physique had changed and wanted to know what I had done. Questions like “What the hell have you been doing?” are still common today. My favourite comment is “You look better than most 20 and 30 year olds who lift weights.
Those kind of comments and complements are a nice ego boost but more importantly it visually confirms that the Muscle Hypertrophy Algorithm works.
